Getting Ready For The Party

This year I decided to do a ladybug theme birthday party. So I got busy about a month before her party hunting down ladybug stuff and deciding on what all I was going to make. Here are a few pics of what I decided on.

I guess I should start with the cake. That is the reason I decided to do a ladybug theme. As soon as I saw this cake, I had to have it. Last year everyone told me to go the Julia's Bakery. That they are the best in Murfreesboro. Well, I guess Julia's must have a had a bad day, because that was the worst birthday cake I have even seen or tasted. You know it is pretty bad when everyone ask you if you made the cake. So this year I decided not to spend $40 on a cake and went to Sams. I can say it was exactly what I ordered and turned out really cute and tasted wonderful. All for $9.99!!! I also ordered 30 ladybug cup cakes to match for $11.99. What a great deal. From now on Sams will be doing all of my cakes.

I couldn't decide on what to do for the drinks. So as I was standing in juice asile of Walmart, I thought to myself everyone loves lemondade and fruit punch. So there ya go. I didn't want to just set the Hawiian punch bottles on the table so I made cute little covers for them that had a ladybug background and said "Ladybug Juice .25c" and no I did not charge our guests. ; )

I was so sad that I did not think to get a pic of the ladybug cookies I spent hours making. So i just remembered that I had one extra that I was saving for Sammie. Since she was sick and not able to come I thought that was the least I could do. Well it got got a little bit smashed up so I pieced back together and used Cassie's camera to take a pic of it. I hope Sammie doesn't mind that is smashed.

I knew in the back of my mind what I wanted to do for Hannah's birthday outfit, but I had never done piping or an inset before. Finally about 5-6 hours I finished the shirt. The first inset was way too big so I threw it in a frame, set it on the table by the cake, and called it a decoration.

Since it was over 50,000 stitches and took me over an hour to stitch I just could not bring myself to throw it away.

I also decided to make Hannah a special party hat. It did
not turn out as good as I would have liked, but it worked.

You know I had to make the traditional birthday banners.

I found these adorable ladybug mask in the dollar rack at Michaels and thought they would be a great activity for the kids. I looked everywhere for a small pack of crayons that had a red and black and could not find them anywhere. Then I was in the dollar tree and found some Hannah Montana crayons that had both red and black! Then I only had one more problem. They were Hannah Montana and did not go with the ladybug theme. So once again as I stand in the aisle of the dollar tree. I think to myself how can I make these work? Then it occurs to me to cover them with the same background paper as the juice, but just put Hannah's 2nd birthday on them. Problem solved.

I found an assorted package of party bubbles at Hobby Lobby. So I took out all the red and made black dots on them to go with the ladybug theme.

While I was at Hobby Lobby, I found these adorable ladybug bows and ladybug gift bag! Oh how I love that place.

I don't know why I can never find what I want when I need it. Is it too much to ask for a solid red party hat? Apparently it is, so instead of just having to make the spots, head, and antenna I also had to make the dag gum hat. Once again I was in Hobby Lobby and they had some Dora the Explorer hats on clearance so I bought them so I would have the elastic to attach to the hats I made. While I was there I grabbed some card stock to make the hats. Of course I get home and I only have 10 pieces and I need 13 hats. So back to Hobby Lobby I go. As I make my way to the scrapbook area I come to find out they are SOLD OUT of the color that I just bought! So now 3 of my hats will not match. Ughhhh.....just my luck.

Well, despite all the set back that occurred I got it done and the party was a huge success. I don't think the kids minded at all that the hats were not all the same color red. lol
