Well we finally did it. Paul & I left Hannah with mom and dad for the weekend and took off for a couples retreat in Gatlinburg. We had a great time and I personally did really good not missing Hannah until the last day we were there. I talked to her on the phone and she said "love you mommy" then my trip was over and I was ready to get back to my baby. While we were there we enjoyed spending time with our friends Valerie & Paul. The scenery was just breath taking. If anyone has never been to Gatlinburg in the fall it is a must do! Here is a pic I took on the way home. As you can see the snow capped mountains! It reminds me of a Thomas Kincaid painting it was so pretty.

This was too cool not to take a pic. It is a museum that shows you what it is like to be in an earthquake. I wish we would have had time to go. It looked really neat.
Lunch at the Apple Barn. What a treat that was. You can not go to Gatlinburg and not stop by. Val tell Paul sorry we had to pass up Taco Bell.
I am glad that we did not sit at this table. I would have been chasing my food the whole meal!
Val & Paul on sugar overload from the apple fritters.

And of course what is a weekend getaway without getting all gussied up for a candle light dinner!

I always thought that marriage retreats were for couples that were struggling and reaching out as a last resort. For couples that had lost all hope. When my friend Valerie asked us to go, my attitude was Paul & I are fine we don't need to go to a marriage retreat. I realized this weekend that marriage retreats are not just for couples that are calling it quits or having problems. They are also for couples that care about their marriage and never want to get to that point in their lives.
This retreat taught me several key points to maintaining a healthy marriage. I think the one thing that I took home with me, is to study my spouse. It is so easy to get caught up in the day to day routines that we forget to make time for each other. We all change every day and without communication we grow apart. I guess that fear of waking up one day being married to a stranger really hit home for me.
I would really like to thank everyone responsible for making this weekend possible. We appreciate all the hard work and dedication that was put into making this weekend special for all of us. All of our needs were met so all we had to do was focus on growing closer to each other and to God. What a blessing this weekend was for me and my family.
